Tri-City Dragway has a story that goes back to the 1960s, when the strip was a gathering place for racers and fans across Mid-Michigan. That story didn't end when the track went quiet in 1978, it's simply been on pause. Tri-City Dragway Inc. exists to write the next chapter of reopening the strip, restoring what time has worn down, and giving this community a place to gather around the sport and history it has never stopped loving.
Our mission is simple, even if the path to it isn't: we want to reopen the track.
Right now, we're in a period of waiting, not because interest has faded, but because reopening a drag strip takes more than enthusiasm and elbow grease. It takes a zoning change from the township, and a zoning vote of this size is unlikely to succeed without the backing of a national racing organization standing behind it. Local support alone won't move that vote. We need a partner with the credibility, resources, and track record to show the township and the community that this is a serious venture.
That national partner also unlocks the piece that makes reopening viable long-term: economic impact. National events bring racers, fans, vendors, and dollars into the area. Without that kind of partner in our corner, reopening the strip and keeping it open becomes an uphill climb.
We're fortunate to have the support of our community, and our hope is bigger than just reopening a race track. We want Tri-City Dragway to become a place for everyone, racers and non-racers alike, a true community organization built around shared history and shared pride from our region. We will keep pursuing this reopening and we're hopeful that the right national organization comes along to help make it happen. Until then, every improvement we make, every event we host, and every conversation we have is a step closer.
Want to help make this happen? If you represent a national organization or you simply believe in what we're building, contact us about partnering with us. It's going to take a community to bring this track back. Whether that means partnering with us, spreading the word, or simply showing up to the car show this year, we hope you'll be part of it.
